How To Prepare Panchagavya: Step By Step Guide

Panchagavya is a natural product has the potential to play an important role in improving plant growth and giving immunity to plant. Panchagavya contains nine products. The are cow dung, cow urine, milk, curd, ghee, banana,jaggery, Tender coconut and water.

Ingredients of Panchagavya

  • Cow milk 2 litres
  • Cow curd 2 litres
  • Cow urine 3 litres
  • Cow ghee ½ kg
  • cow dung 5 kg
  • Sugarcane juice- 3kg (500 grams of jaggery in 3 liters of water)
  • Tender coconut water- 3 litres
  • Banana ripe 12 numbers
  • Mix the Cow dung 5kg and Cow ghee ½ kg both in morning and evening and keep it for 3 days.
  • After three days of mix water and cow urine and keep it for 15 days with daily mixing both in the morning and evening. After 15 days mix the Cow milk, curd, tender coconut water, Jaggery, poovan banana, and panchagavya will be ready after 30 days.

Time to applly Panchagavya for different crops

Sunflower 30,45 and 60 days after sowing
Black gram Rainfed: 1st flowering and after 15 days flowering
Irrigated: 15, 25 and 40 days after sowing
Green gram After sowing15,25,30, 40 and 50 days
Castor 30 and 45 days after sowing
Groundnut 25 and 30th days after sowing
Bhendi after sowing 30, 45, 60 and 75 days
Moringa Before flowering and during pod formation
Tomato Nursery and after 40 days plant transplanting: seed treatment with 1 % for 12 hrs
Onion 0, 45 and 60 days after transplanting
Rose At the time of pruning and budding
Jasmine Bud initiation and setting
Vanilla Dipping setts before planting

Method of Preparation Panchagavya

Panchagavya is a mixture of nine products. That holds in a wid mud pot, concrete tank or plastic drum can be used. The five essential products received from the Cow and above said other products should be added and keep in the selected container. The mixture container should be kept near the shade and closed with a wire mesh or plastic mosquito net to safeguard houseflies from laying eggs and the formation of maggots in the solution. The mixture container is to be mixed twice a day both in the morning and evening. The Panchagavya solution will be ready after 30 days. Add 500 g of jaggery dissolved in 3 liters of water, If not available add sugarcane juice.

Vegetables

Guava, Acid lime, Jasmine

  • It gives Higher TSS.
  • It gives Continuous flowering throughout the year.
  • It gives Fruits are plumpy with strong aroma.

Recommended dosage

Flow system

In drip irrigation or flow irrigation, the 50 litres liquid Panchagavya can be mixed with irrigation water for per hectare

Spray system

In this method, three litres of Panchagavya to every 100 litres of water is good for all agricultural crops. In the power sprayers of ten litres capacity may need 300 ml/tank. The sediments are to be filtered when you used power sprayer, the nozzle with higher pore size has to be used in hand-operated sprayers.

Seed storage

Before drying or storing the seed use 3% of Panchagavya solution to dip the seeds.

Seed/seedling treatment

Before planting the seed use 3% solution of Panchagavya to soak the seed or dip the seed for 20 minutes is sufficient. Before planting. the Rhizomes of Ginger, Turmeric and Sugarcane can be soaked for 30 minutes.

Periodicity of spraying

In Pre flowering you can spray two times for Once in 15 days.

In Flowering and pod stage you can spray two times for Once in 10 days.

In Fruit/Pod maturation stage you can spray two times.

Advantage of Panchagavya

  • It helps to increase the growth of weeds, algae and small worms in the fish ponds. thus it gives food to fish.
